One character, Brian Fantana played by Paul Rudd, struts out after having applied some especially potent scent. The stench only causes the office to clear in a hurry. One woman running in horror from the scene cries [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], ‘You smell like Big Foot’s dick!’
Burgundy rules the television ratings as anchorman, yet he is about to meet his match when the beautiful and talented Veronica Corningstone, played by Christina Applegate, comes on the scene.

Anchorman Succeeds Due to Fine Cast, Writers and Direction
For example, there’s an hilarious fight scene where she’s throwing office equipment around the office. It’s completely absurd, but pays off handsomely in laughs.
In on scene we see Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy at what looks like a swinging party, walking by a pool wearing nothing but a tight fitting pair of jockey briefs and a dressing gown.

Full marks must be given to Applegate for her smart performance of a rather tricky role. Veronica Corningstone has to fall in love with a man who seems to be more in love with himself, while trying to get ahead in her own career. None of it of course makes any sense, yet Applegate strikes the right balance for this farce. She doesn’t go over the top, playing her character straight yet still managing to get plenty of laughs along the way.
This is not the sort of subject matter that comes to mind as immediately ripe for satire. Yet it is exactly this kind of over-the-top sexist workplace that Ferrell has lampooned. And what a brilliant job he does of it.
Will Ferrell plays Ron Burgundy, a TV anchorman who thinks himself quite the Lothario.
Why do these clearly silly films work so well? The answer seems to be a cast that all love the material they're working with and 'get' the joke; they also clearly have a natural rapport with each other. They can all bounce gags off each other [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and this infectiously rubs off on the audience too.
This is side splitting stuff.
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is a clever spoof by Will Ferrell and writer Adam McKay of the misogynist 1970s news room culture. (Adam McKay also directs.)
It’s common knowledge that before feminism’s second wave flushed out old attitudes, women in the workplace were considered little more than glorified tea makers and note takers. They were paid little, and appreciated less.
Ron Burgundy Meets His Match
The funniest scene is when the guys from the office ‘musk up’ [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], meaning lathering themselves with horrible aftershave. The reason for this is to make the women fall to their knees and want to have sex with them.
Directed by Adam McKay
Ferrell wears this outfit to brilliant effect – if an outfit it could be called. Ron Burgundy looks at once macho and ridiculous, or ridiculously macho. While Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is a spoof on this type of seventies Lothario, it’s clearly obvious that Ferrell genuinely likes Ron Burgundy.
